Empowering a Safe and Just Transition: RPC at the Caribbean Feminist Redefining Work Series

22 Aug 2025

Renewable Power Caribbean Limited (RPC) was honoured to partner with the Caribbean Feminist Redefining Work series. Represented by Steffy Heera, RPC led an interactive workshop titled "Extreme Heat & Worker Safety," focusing on the critical intersection of climate change, public health, and labour rights in our tropical region.

As a leader in renewable energy, RPC is driven by a commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals. Central to this is our belief in a "just energy transition" ensuring that as we build a sustainable future, we also create a safer, more equitable environment for the workforce powering that change.

While the Caribbean sun is our greatest resource for renewable energy, it also poses a significant risk to those working outdoors. With climate change increasing the frequency and intensity of heat waves, protecting workers from heat-related illnesses has become a critical priority.

During the session, RPC shared the internal safety protocols and knowledge we use to protect our own technicians, aiming to empower all Caribbean workers, regardless of their profession, to stay safe in the sun.

The presentation concluded by reinforcing that a true "just energy transition" is measured not only by the clean energy we produce but by the safety and dignity of the people producing it. As climate change continues to intensify our tropical environment, RPC remains dedicated to transforming workplace safety from a set of rules into a community-driven "buddy system". By mastering the 3 Cs—Cool down, Consume fluids, and Contact help—workers across the Caribbean are empowered to navigate extreme heat with resilience. Together, we are building a future that is both environmentally sustainable and uncompromisingly safe for every individual working under the Caribbean sun.
